Mom

always recommend a dress for maternity shoots, but, ultimately, I want you to wear whatever you feel the most comfortable in. Dress yourself in something you feel relaxed, confident, and beautiful in and then build the rest of the family around your outfit. Showing off the baby bump is key!

Something to consider: do not limit yourself to only looking at clothes designated as "maternity". Sizing up or finding a dress that accommodates a growing belly will work perfectly for maternity photos!

Coordination Is Key

Pick two to three colors that are flattering for everyone, and work those colors into each outfit in different ways. A few colors I love to photograph are shades of blue, greens, tans, browns, whites, and pinks. Feel free to mix in a pattern or two as long as the colors coordinate.

Colors

When choosing colors for a maternity shoot, there are so many fun options. White is a go to color for maternity as it represents the innocents of new life. I've also had moms dress in a color that represents the sex of their baby. Or maybe you have a go to color that you know you look great in and compliments your skin tone. Be sure to coordinate whatever color you choose with the rest of your family.
